Here it is, just by keeping track of how often you should clean your appliances, you can prevent some damage and wear from happening.

Refrigerator

This appliance is one of the trickiest because it holds food and that can get very messy. Here are some tips to keep this appliance clean:

  • Wipe door handles daily to prevent bacteria build-up
  • Cleans spills and messes immediately
  • Get rid off expired items every week
  • Do a deep clean every 2-3 months; take all drawers and food out for this one

Dishwasher

To clean this appliance use a mix of vinegar and hot water, let it run through a cycle empty, then go over the stubborn spots with a cloth.

Washing Machine & Dryer

Unless you have a particularly dirty load your washing machine should be cleaned once a month.

The same goes for your dryer, expect you should clean this appliance’s filter after every load, to keep your clothes fresh and clean.

Cooktop & Oven

Appliances used for cooking are more likely to get dirty so expect to clean these two more often than the rest.

The best way to clean your cooktop is after using it, just make it a habit and save yourself a lot of work in the future.

Oven’s can last a bit longer without cleaning but take care of spills immediately and depending on how much you use this appliance clean it every 2-3 months.

Microwave

Because this one also depends on how much you use it, so if you make the most out of your microwave then clean this appliance once a week.

How to Make Your Fridge Last Longer https://beaverappliancerepair.ca/how-to-make-your-fridge-last-longer/ Tue, 01 Dec 2020 05:40:34 +0000 https://beaverappliancerepair.ca/?p=2007 If you are curious about how to prolong the life of your fridge, this article might be helpful for you. We have put together four tips that will help to extend the lifespan of your appliance.

Having a fridge is essential for your kitchen. It makes sure that your food stays fresh and it provides cool drinks on a hot summer’s day. Therefore, it is for sure annoying if your fridge suddenly stops working or breaks completely. While we can help you to repair your fridge, there is nothing else to do than to buy a new one in case it’s irreparable.

According to a study of the National Association of Home Builders, the expected lifespan of a fridge is around 13 years. To make sure your fridge lasts that long or even longer, you’ll have to pay attention to it and keep it clean and fresh. Our tips will help you with that.

1. Keep the Fridge’s Gaskets Clean

The gaskets are the secret of why the air stays cool inside a fridge. It means the little plastic strip that forms a seal between the fridge and doors. And by keeping the cold air inside, it helps conserving energy. To make sure that the gaskets do their job properly, you should clean them regularly by wiping them to remove debris. Once they are clean, you can use Vaseline to keep them elastic.

2. Defrost the Freezer

To keep your freezer working properly, you should defrost it at least once a year. Another indicator that is time for defrosting it is when the ice inside has built up to a size bigger than one inch. To defrost it, you have to take out all the food and unplug so the ice can start melting. Don’t forget to cover the floor around the fridge with towels as it might get wet otherwise. If you want to speed up the process, you can even use a spatula or a hairdryer but not a knife as this could destroy the elements or the internal surface.

3. Clean the Compressor

The compressor is the heart of your fridge as it makes sure that your appliance keeps cool. To do that needs to get air easily, so it must be free of dust. And this also helps the compressor from overheating which expands its lifespan. Most compressors are located in the bottom of the appliance and can be cleaned by wiping the toe-kick. This should be done two or three times a year.

4. Use the Ice Maker Regularly.

If your fridge has an ice maker, you should use it regularly to keep it working properly. Therefore, you should look in the manual of your appliance to find out how much water should run through the system during a week and make sure to follow these instructions. Otherwise the water inside the fridge will turn into ice that will build up into a huge ice block. Once you start using it again the block can break the spinning bar that moves the ice to the front of the fridge.

Of course, every appliance needs to be replaced eventually but by following these tips you can at least make sure that you got the most out of it. Don’t be too annoyed if you have to get a new appliance as that could also mean that you will save energy in the future when buying a newer refrigerator. And if you need help with the installation: We got you covered.

How to Fix 3 Common Washing Machine Problems https://beaverappliancerepair.ca/how-to-fix-3-common-washing-machine-problems/ Tue, 01 Dec 2020 05:22:06 +0000 https://beaverappliancerepair.ca/?p=2001 A Washing machine is one of the most essential appliances in the household. Therefore, it will give you a sleepless night if something is not working correctly.

A few years ago, back in the 1980s, a washing machine was an expensive household appliance that lasted forever – or at least, it felt like it. But things have changed since then. Washers are a lot cheaper now but come with a lower quality and less longevity. Nowadays, a new-bought washing machine has a life expectancy from only eleven years on average, less than thirty years ago.

But the good news is: you can extend the life span of your washing machine by taking good care of it and fixing problems immediately after they appear. Here is a guide how you can fix three common  laundry washing machine problems yourself.

But safety first! Before you get started, please make sure your washing machine is disconnected from the mains.

The Washing Machine won’t drain

One possible reason that the water won’t drain can be a clogged drain pump or hose. You can fix this yourself by removing the drain hose from the machine to clean it. Usually, the entry point is located at the back of your machine and you might need a screwdriver to get it out. To clean the clogged drain, run some hot water through it or use a stick or long object to push the blocking items out. Please ne careful so the drain hose does not get kinked or bent while doing that.

In case a clogged drain pump is not the problem, you should schedule an appointment to get professional advice.

The Washer Is too Loud

A lot of times the cause of the noise can come from objects that are trapped in between the outer seal and the inner drum. It can be a bra wire that got stuck or a small object that you forgot to take out of your pockets. First, you have to locate the object and see if you can get it out with your hands. If not you can use a flathead screwdriver, and wedge it between the inner drum and the door seal. Lever it back carefully to get more space for your hand to grab the trapped item. Once you got the item, give the drum a spin to make sure the gap between the drum and the seal is even.

The Washing Machine Moves Around

A washing machine that likes to take a walk around in the laundry room can harm itself as well as the floor. And that’s why you want avoid it. Firstly, you have to make sure that your washing machine is level, for example by using a bubble level. Secondly, you can add some non-slip pads to the bottom of your machine to give it some extra grip. That will also reduce the shake. Last but not least, make sure you balance the load when doing your laundry. Instead of putting just one bulky item in the machine, add a second one to make it even.

How to Clean your Dishwasher https://beaverappliancerepair.ca/how-to-clean-your-dishwasher/ Thu, 26 Nov 2020 01:39:04 +0000 https://beaverappliancerepair.ca/?p=39

Does a dishwasher clean itself while cleaning the dishes? No. Here is why that assumption is wrong and why you really should start cleaning your dishwasher now.

Your dishwasher does its best to provide you with clean dishes every day. But while doing that, grease, soap scum, water minerals and food debris are getting stuck in the filter or the interior walls and leaving the dishwasher dirtier after every washing cycle. Just remember: If the appliance isn’t clean, your dishes won’t be either.

A dirty dishwasher is a perfect breeding ground for germs but it also reduces the life span and the efficiency of the appliance. Soon, your dishwasher might need to get repaired or it can even turn into a threat to your health:

Studies are showing that germs from dishwashers, such as the black yeast-like fungi ,can lead to serious diseases and breathing problems.

Do you need more reasons to start cleaning your dishwasher regularly?! No? Well, then read our instructions carefully to find out how it works!

How should I clean the dishwasher?

 You need:

  • distilled white vinegar
  • baking soda

First of all, pull out the bottom rack of your appliance. Remove the drainage strainer from the bottom of the dishwasher. Have a look if there is anything clogging the holes such as food debris or paper labels that came off a jar while washing. Pull out the bottom rack and remove leftover food that may have fallen into the well with paper towels. You should do this not only once  a month but after every dishwasher-cycle if possible.

In the next step, you’ll have to clean the area around the drain. To scrub stuck items away use a soft-bristled brush that you dip into vinegar to clean. Don’t put the vinegar away yet, as you will also need it for the next step:

Fill a bowl with vinegar and put it into the dishwasher – don’t fill it directly into the rinse-aid dispenser. Why not? Vinegar is a strong acid and could easily melt the rubber gaskets in the rinse-aid dispenser. Close the door and run a complete cycle on the hottest setting but without the drying cycle. The vinegar will make sure there is no grease left in your dishwasher.

When the first washing cycle is done, you’ll need to get the baking soda out. Sprinkle it on the inside floor of the dishwasher before you run a quick wash cycle on the hottest setting again. Skip the drying cycle and open the door of your appliance when the rinsing is done so the inside of your appliance can dry properly. Not only will your dishwasher look shiny after that, the baking soda will also take away all the bad odors.

How often should I clean my dishwasher?

An average household uses a dishwasher up to 110 times a year – that is more than twice a week. To make sure you keep bacteria out of it, you should clean the dishwasher once a month as explained above. If you stick to this routine, thorough cleaning is only needed once or twice a year.

By following this easy routine, you’ll make sure that your dishwasher will work properly, and it will extend the life span of the appliance. Who knew that a bit of baking soda and vinegar could save you a lot of money, time and troubles!
